Custom Wine Labels for Your Wedding

Looking for ways to personalize your wedding? One way is to create your own custom wine label and, believe it or not, it won’t break the bank. You can buy whatever wine you want (may we suggest the 5 cent wine sale at BevMo?), then stick your custom made label right over the original wine label. Just make sure your new label covers enough of the old one, unless you want to take the time to remove it and that could take several hours and be more frustrating than it’s worth. Read More…

Happy New Year – 2013!

As we bring in the new year, I’d like to take a moment to reflect and thank those who have helped me get to where I am today…

2012 was a year of change for me. I quit my day job and decided to concentrate on my business full time. It was a little scary and the year definitely had its ups and downs but I wouldn’t change a thing. A huge thanks to my 2011 and 2012 clients. Without them, I wouldn’t still be here today. It’s because of them that I was able to learn and grow and turn my dream into a reality. I’m so grateful that they took a chance on me and allowed me to be a part of one of the biggest days of their lives. Thank you to my family and friends for their support. A proper support system is so important. Everyone has been wonderful, especially my husband, Matt. Without his love and support, I never would have been able to quit my job, concentrate on this business and make it through those tough times. Read More…

Tuesday’s Tasting – Summers Charbono

Finally, another Tuesday’s Tasting, but on Wednesday. So I guess we should call this one Wine Wednesday.

This time I’m writing about my absolute favorite wine right now – Summers Charbono. Summers Estate Wines is located in the Napa Valley. After visiting their tasting room last year, we immediately became a wine club member. All of their wines are very good and surprisingly affordable, especially for Napa. The Charbono is Summers’ signature “unique” wine. It’s inky, rich, dark berry flavors, with a satin finish … very easy to drink. This wine doesn’t last very long in our wine fridge but my plan is to save a bottle to bring in the new season of Dexter! Good thing it’s just a few days away!

The Charbono is available at the winery for $28.00, but you can sometimes find it a little cheaper at local wine shops.

If you’re unfamiliar with Charbono, it’s kind of like Petite Sirah in its inky color, thick tannins and full-bodied mouthfeel. Summers’ 2009 is a big wine, bone dry and modest in alcohol, with deep blackberry, grilled meat and black pepper flavors. It’s a good barbecue wine that will probably live for 20 years. – Wine Enthusiast Magazine

Personalizing your Wedding with Wine

Two of my favorite things… wine and weddings! There are so many ways to incorporate wine and wine related elements into your wedding. But for right now, I’m just going to share how we decided to include several of our favorite wines at our wedding without paying a fortune on corkage fees. It was important to us to get married at a vineyard and when you get married at a vineyard, you have to serve their wines or pay a corkage fee on every bottle that is not theirs. We were pretty happy with our venue’s wine but because we are such wine lovers, we had several other favorite wines that we wanted to share but didn’t want to pay a corkage fee for numerous cases of wine. So we chose 14 different bottles of wines that were special to us for one reason or another and placed a bottle at every table. For instance, our table had a signed bottle of Saarloos & Sons Bubbly, which, incidentally, was the only bottle of sparkling wine at our wedding. This wine was very special to us, not only because we love Keith and his wines, but because we opened a bottle on the night we got engaged. On the back of every menu, we wrote information about the wine and why it was special to us. This way, we got to share our favorite wines with our personal feelings or story about each wine and we only had to pay a corkage fee for those 14 bottles of wine.

During dinner service, we went around to each table to share a taste of the wines with everyone. While we did that, we took a picture with everyone at the table. It was a nice opportunity to share a few moments and to share the wine with them. It was also a good way to get at least one picture with everyone at the wedding.

It meant a lot to us to be able to share these wines with our family and friends. Here is a list of all the wines we shared…

Cakebread Reserve Chardonnay
Catena Malbec
Chateau Montelena Cabernet
Demetria Cuvee Constantine
Frank Family Reserve Zinfandel
Jaffe Estate Transformation
Leviathan
Melville Estate Pinot Noir
Orin Swift Mercury Head
Orin Swift The Prisoner
Saarloos & Sons mrS. Pinot Noir
Saarloos Bubbly
Tobin James Petit Syrah
Vines on the Marycrest My Generation
Vines on the Marycrest Summertime
